Our standards

Editorial policy

Our goal is simple: to help you understand credit in Canada with content that is clear, honest and up to date. Here are the principles behind everything we publish.

Last reviewed: 7 July 2026.

How we research

Our content is written by the Prêtwise editorial team using public, verifiable sources. We rely in particular on the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC), provincial consumer-protection bodies, the credit bureaus (Equifax, TransUnion), Canadian government resources and lenders' official documentation. We favour information we can verify and avoid claims we cannot support.

Canada-specific content

Credit works differently from one country to the next. We focus our guides on the Canadian reality — federal and provincial rules, lenders active in Canada, and local practices — rather than reusing foreign information that doesn't apply here.

How often we review

We review our guides at least once a year, and sooner whenever a rule, a rate or a lender changes. Every guide shows the date it was last updated so you know how current the information is.

Corrections

If you spot an error or outdated information, email us atcontact@pretwise.ca or use ourcontact form. We check every report and correct promptly when warranted.

Rates and figures are illustrative

When we show a rate, an amount or a monthly payment, it is an illustrative example meant to explain a concept. These figures are not offers and may differ from what a lender will offer you after assessing your file. Always confirm the exact terms with the lender.

Updates

Rules, rates and lenders change. We revise our guides when we find that information is no longer accurate. If you spot an error, let us know — we're glad to fix it.

Separating editorial from affiliate

We may be compensated when you visit an affiliated lender — see ourhow we make money page. That compensation does not shape our analysis: our guides and comparisons present the facts the same way whether a lender is affiliated or not. Links that may compensate us always come with adisclosure.

What we are not

Prêtwise is not a lender and does not provide personalized financial, legal or tax advice. Our content is educational. For a decision that affects you, consult a qualified professional.
