Our comparison methodology

Our comparison tool is not a complete view of the Canadian market. It shows the lenders we have an agreement with. This page explains exactly how that list is built, ordered and verified, so you can judge its value for yourself.

Who appears in the comparison

A lender appears when two conditions are met: it holds the authorizations required to lend in the provinces where we show it, and we have an agreement in place with it. We do not add a lender on the strength of an advertising budget alone, and we do not list lenders we have no relationship with — in both cases we could not verify the information we show you.

An important consequence: a lender's absence does not mean it is a poor choice. Most often it means it is not part of our network. Always compare our list against your own financial institution.

How results are ordered

The default "Recommended" sort applies two criteria, in this order:

  1. lenders flagged as featured in our directory, a commercial relationship we disclose;
  2. then a manual display order we maintain, then alphabetical order.

You can override this at any time: "Lowest rate" and "Highest amount" reorder the list on factual data, with no commercial relationship taken into account.

We deliberately do not offer a "top rated" sort. Rating a lender would require a documented, defensible assessment method that we do not yet have. Until we do, showing stars would invent a precision that does not exist.

Provincial coverage

We only show a lender in a province where it actually operates. If you select a province with no partner lender, the tool says so plainly rather than suggesting you widen your criteria: the problem is not your search, it is our coverage. Our network is currently concentrated in Quebec.

How often we verify

Amounts, rates, funding times and provinces served are reviewed when a lender reports a change and during our periodic reviews. The date shown under the comparison tool — "Coverage last verified on" — reflects the last real change recorded in our directory, not a hand-set date.

Rates and fees remain illustrative. The terms that bind you are the ones the lender presents at the time of your application, after reviewing your file.

How we are paid

We may be paid when you visit a lender's site from our comparison tool. The service stays free to you and does not increase the cost of your borrowing. You always choose the lender yourself: we never redirect anyone automatically. See our affiliate disclosure and how we make money.

Reporting an error

If any lender information is inaccurate or out of date, contact us. We correct factual errors under our editorial policy.
