Frequently asked questions

How is credit utilization calculated?+

Add up the balances on all your cards, then divide that total by the sum of your credit limits. The result, as a percentage, is your overall utilization ratio.

Why keep it under 30%?+

Utilization under 30% is generally linked to a stronger credit score. Above that, credit bureaus may read it as a sign of over-reliance on credit, which drags your score down.

Does per-card utilization matter too?+

Yes. On top of overall utilization, a single card near its limit can hurt your score even if your total usage is low. Spreading balances or raising limits can help.
