Frequently asked questions

Is this estimate tax advice?+

No. It is a simplified, illustrative estimate based on approximate 2026 figures. It excludes most credits and deductions (RRSP, childcare, personal credits beyond the basic amount, union dues, etc.). Consult a professional for your actual situation.

What does the calculation include?+

Federal income tax, provincial income tax, CPP (or QPP in Quebec) and Employment Insurance (EI). Each tax applies the marginal brackets and the basic personal amount. Contributions are capped at the annual maximum.

What is not included?+

We do apply the Quebec abatement (a 16.5% reduction of basic federal tax for Quebec residents). Still excluded: the non-refundable CPP/EI tax credits, the Canada employment amount, and the gradual phase-out of the basic personal amount for high earners — plus provincial surtaxes, health premiums (e.g. Ontario), Quebec parental insurance (QPIP), the second CPP/QPP ceiling (CPP2), and any other credit or deduction beyond the basic personal amount. Your actual net pay may therefore differ.

Why is Quebec treated differently?+

Quebec runs its own pension plan (QPP) at a slightly higher rate than CPP, and its EI rate is reduced because the province administers QPIP separately. We apply those rates but do not include QPIP.
